Day02

Sightseeing tour in Lhasa

We spend our day visiting several monasteries in Lhasa in the company of a guide and interpreter. One of these is the Sera Monastery, the best-preserved monastery in Tibet with its whitewashed walls and golden roofs. After lunch we visit Norbulingka, a summer palace of the Dalai Lama and the Jokhang Temple, a most sacred shrine in Tibet. Surrounding the Jokhang is the Barkor - a maze of narrow cobbled streets that is the central market of Lhasa. Overnight at Hotel, Breakfast included.

Day03

Lhasa sightseeing tour

We visit Potala Palace in the morning. It is a palace that dominates the city of Lhasa. It is a spectacular building containing the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand state rooms and many important chapels. There has been a Palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present Palace was constructed in the 17th century. After lunch, we visit the Drepung Monastery, which was founded in the 14th century. It used to be the largest monastery in the world, with a population of around 10,000 monks. These days the number has fallen down to hundred. Overnight at Hotel, Breakfast included.

Day04

Lhasa to Shigatse (3,900m) 350 Km 7hrs

Our drive follows the Tsangpo River. We ascend up to 15,700-foot Khampa La. We see Yamdrok Lake below and in the near distance rises a great snow peak of Ningdzingzonka. We then head westward along the lake and drive toward Gyantse. In Gyantse, we visit the famous Pelkor Monastery. The Pelkor Chode Monastery also includes Gyantse Kumbum. The Kumbum has nine floors and each tier has unique chapels. It is considered the largest of the three Kumbums in Tibet. After one and half hour drive, we arrive in Shigatse. Overnight at Hotel, Breakfast included.

Day05

Shigatse to Xegar (4200m) 240 Km, 6hrs

Morning Visit Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery. Then Drive to Xegar crossing over Gyatchula (a pass of 5,200m). Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast included.

Day06

Xegar - Rongbuk (4980m) – Everest Base Camp, 9-10 hrs

We leave Rongbuk in the morning to visit Everest Base Camp (5,250m / 17,220ft). The journey to the base camp is made by local bus, offering us spectacular views of towering peaks such as Cho Oyu (8,201m / 26,906ft), Shishapangma (8,013m / 26,289ft), and, of course, the majestic Everest (8,848m / 29,028ft), known as Mt. Chomolungma on the Tibetan side.

Today marks one of the major highlights of our trip — reaching the base of the world’s highest mountain. We make an approximately 16 km round trip around Everest Base Camp. While the camp itself is dry and barren, the breathtaking view of Everest more than makes up for it.

After spending some memorable time at the base of Mt. Everest, we drive back to Xegar. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day07

Xegar to Kerung (3700m) 315 km 6hrs

Drive to Kerung by over-crossing the high pass of Lulang La (5,050m) from where one can enjoy the magnificent view of Mt. Xishapagma (8,212m) & Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m). Overnight at Guesthouse in Kerung, breakfast included.

Day08
