Your adventure starts with a scenic mountain flight to Lukla (2,840 m), one of the world's most famous high-altitude airports. Upon arrival, you will meet your trekking crew and begin a gentle 3 to 4-hour hike to Phakding (2,640 m). Phakding to Namche Bazaar:

The trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) is one of the most exciting days of the journey. After an early breakfast, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several famous suspension bridges and passing through the villages of Benkar, Monjo, and Jorsalle. Along the way, trekkers enter Sagarmatha National Park and complete the necessary permit checks.

Following lunch, the trail climbs steadily through pine forests before reaching Namche Bazaar, the bustling commercial center of the Khumbu region. The trek takes approximately 6 to 7 hours and involves an altitude gain of around 800 meters. Namche offers excellent mountain lodges, cafes, bakeries, and magnificent views of the surrounding peaks.

To aid acclimatization, you will spend an extra day in Namche Bazaar, including a hike to Syangboche and nearby viewpoints that provide breathtaking panoramas of Everest and other Himalayan giants.

Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar:

The highlight of the trek is reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 m), where climbers from around the world prepare for their ascent of the world's highest mountain. Standing at the base of Mount Everest is a truly unforgettable achievement.

The following morning, you will hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the highest point of the trek and the best viewpoint in the Everest region. From here, you can witness a spectacular sunrise and enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest (8,848.86 m) along with numerous surrounding Himalayan peaks.

With a bit of luck, trekkers may also spot elusive wildlife such as the snow leopard and Himalayan black bear in remote areas of the national park.

As the trail ascends above the tree line, the landscape gradually transforms into a dramatic alpine environment of rocky terrain, glaciers, and snow-covered peaks. Essential Information

Is airport pickup service included upon arrival in Nepal?

Yes, upon your arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, our airport representative or staff will welcome you warmly and transfer you to your respective hotel. In the afternoon or evening, we will review your trip itinerary, discuss the services included or excluded based on your chosen package, and introduce your trek guide, who will help you with the final preparations for your trek.

What kind of hotel do you provide in Kathmandu?

For the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek, we provide a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu both before and after the trek. The rooms are on a twin-sharing basis, and a delicious hot breakfast is included. If you require a single room, an additional supplement will apply.

What kind of accommodation is included in the trip package?

Throughout the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek, we offer clean tea houses (mountain lodges) and guesthouses. At Phakding and Namche Bazaar, we provide rooms with attached bathrooms.

Do you provide hygienic food during the trek?

Yes, we provide hygienic local meals along the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek, with full-board meals included (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Meals are served at the tea houses or lodges, with breakfast and dinner at the same location and lunch served en route. Typical Nepali meals like Dal Bhat (rice and lentils) are common, as well as other food options like rice, vegetables, noodles, potatoes, and soups. Some lodges also serve Western foods such as pizza, pasta, and French fries. Soft drinks, snacks, and beer are available in most tea house restaurants. For breakfast, you can generally find cereals, bread, and egg dishes.

Can we buy safe drinking water during the trek?

Safe drinking water is essential during the trek. We recommend drinking at least 3-4 liters of water daily to prevent dehydration and avoid altitude sickness (AMS). Filtered clean water is provided along the trek, and we also supply water purification pills. Alternatively, you can purchase sealed bottled or boiled water en route for an extra cost of around 2-4 dollars per liter.

Is health and fitness required for the trek?

Health and physical fitness are key for trekking and hiking. If you do not have prior trekking experience, we recommend starting a walking or cycling exercise routine for several weeks or months before your trip. If you have previous trekking or climbing experience, it will be beneficial for this trip. The highest point on this trek is 5,545 meters above sea level, and the trail involves several ascents and descents, walking through local villages, farmlands, terraces, and riverside paths. As long as you have the energy to walk for 4-6 hours per day, moderate fitness will suffice. However, we strongly advise travelers to consult a doctor before traveling and submit a medical report when booking the trip.

Are your trek guides experienced and safety-trained?

In Nepal, trekking in remote mountainous areas requires experienced and qualified guides and staff. At Nepal Spirit Adventure, we employ native trekking guides and porters who are trained and qualified for this type of trip. Our guides have a deep knowledge of the local culture and customs, and they are trained in first aid and safety procedures to ensure your well-being. All our guides are licensed by the Nepal Government and certified by TAAN and the Nepal Mountaineering Association. Our trekking guides have over 9-10 years of experience, and we provide regular training to our staff to ensure their efficiency.

For group treks, we provide one trek leader and, depending on the group size, an assistant guide. This ensures that in the event of any medical issues or other challenges, the trip will continue smoothly. To make the trek more enjoyable, we assign one guide to support and carry bags for every two trekkers, with the addition of a Sherpa helper in certain situations.

Are there recharging facilities for electronic devices on the trek?

Yes, we offer the ability to recharge your batteries and devices using electricity or solar power sources. In Nepal, the standard voltage is 220-240V with a 50Hz frequency. However, you may need a plug adapter, which you can purchase in Kathmandu before your trip. There may be a small fee for using the recharging facilities.

What about high-altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness (also known as acute mountain sickness or AMS) can occur when ascending too quickly at altitudes above 3,000 meters. Common symptoms include shortness of breath and light-headedness, which are normal at high altitudes. However, AMS involves more severe symptoms such as headache, nausea, and confusion. It is important to stay hydrated and take regular breaks. If you experience symptoms, inform your trekking guide, who will advise on the appropriate actions. Avoiding overexertion and drinking plenty of water (3-4 liters a day) can help prevent altitude sickness.

When is the best time for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek?

Trekking in Nepal is possible year-round, but the best times are during the Spring and Autumn seasons. Here’s a breakdown of each season:

  • Autumn (September - November): This is one of the best seasons for trekking in the Himalayas, offering clear weather and spectacular mountain views. It’s also the peak season, and you’ll experience cultural events such as Dashain and Tihar, two major Hindu festivals in Nepal.

  • Winter (December - February): The weather can be cold at higher elevations, with snowfall. While trekking below 3,000 meters is ideal, higher regions may experience extreme cold. This season offers clear skies and fewer crowds, but be prepared for chilly temperatures at night.

  • Spring (March-May): Another excellent season for trekking, with warmer temperatures and vibrant flora, especially the rhododendron flowers. The weather is moderate, and visibility at higher altitudes is excellent.

  • Summer (June-August): This is the monsoon season, which brings heavy rainfall. While trekking during summer is possible, it is not recommended due to the wet conditions, which can make trails slippery and unpredictable. However, some regions like Upper Mustang, Dolpo, and Kailash are ideal for trekking during this time due to their dry climate.

Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek FAQs

The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek is particularly popular in the Khumbu-Everest region among travelers who prefer a shorter experience. It eliminates the need for a downhill trek back to Lukla, and participants can enjoy the breathtaking Himalayan scenery during the helicopter flight to Lukla.

We offer a competitive price for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek, costing USD 2,249 per trekker. This cost includes arrival and departure transport, accommodation in Kathmandu, the trek itself, three meals a day during the trek, a Sherpa guide, one porter for every two trekkers, trek permits, and the shared helicopter flight from Gorak Shep to Lukla, as well as round-trip airline fare from Kathmandu to Lukla and trekking equipment.

The ideal times for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Trek are from mid-February to May (spring) and September to December (autumn). Both seasons provide clear mountain visibility and stable weather, allowing trekkers to fully enjoy their trip. However, note that global weather changes can impact conditions. If you wish to make this trip at a less crowded time, another season would also be suitable.

The weather in Lukla can be quite unpredictable, leading to flight cancellations even during peak trekking seasons. If the Lukla flight is canceled, we will reschedule your airline ticket for the next day, or you may opt for a helicopter flight to Lukla. In case of severely adverse weather conditions, we can adjust the trek itinerary to alternatives such as the Annapurna Base Camp trek, Annapurna Circuit trek, Langtang Circuit, or Manaslu Round trek.

Yes, we provide essential equipment for the Everest Base Camp helicopter trek, which lasts for 10 days. The key items include a sleeping bag, a down jacket, and a duffel bag.

Yes, the trek permit is included in the tour package. This includes:-

1. Everest/Sagarmatha National Park Permit.

2. Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Development Permit.

Yes, we strongly recommend booking the Everest Base Camp helicopter trek in advance. During the peak trekking seasons of Spring and Autumn, our EBC crews are often busy. It's important to secure domestic airline tickets between Kathmandu and Lukla, as well as to arrange helicopter share flights from Gorak Shep to Lukla. Additionally, securing permits, guides, available accommodations for the trip, and other logistics is essential.

Our guides receive thorough training to assess and manage emergencies with precision and care. They are equipped to provide immediate basic attention as needed. In difficult situations, we quickly coordinate with helicopter services and your insurance provider for emergency rescue. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we are always prepared for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the Everest Base Camp Helicopter trek.

The Everest Base Camp trek offers a diverse selection of food, including both Western and Nepali cuisine. Meals are available for both vegetarians and vegans. You can find more information about food options during the trek here.

When considering how much to tip your guide and porter during the Everest Base Camp Helicopter trek, it's important to keep a few factors in mind. Tipping is typically done at the end of your trip and can be offered in any major currency.

At Nepal Spirit Adventure, we advocate for fairly and respectfully acknowledging the individuals who help make your trek a success. While tipping is not mandatory in Nepal, it is a well-established practice, especially in the trekking industry, and is greatly appreciated by guides and porters. These dedicated team members often go above and beyond to ensure your comfort and safety on the trail.

As a gesture of gratitude, we recommend tipping between 10% and 15% of your total trip cost, to be shared between your guide and porter. You may choose to offer tips individually or pool them together as a group—whichever option feels more comfortable for you.

With over 25 years of experience organizing treks in the Everest region, our licensed trekking guides offer exceptional local knowledge on every journey. We prioritize your safety and comfort by providing a well-planned itinerary, cozy tea house accommodations, and small group sizes for a more personal and meaningful experience. Our attentive team is available 24/7, so you can contact us anytime during your trip.
