15 Days Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Overview
The 15 Days Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is one of the most popular trekking adventures in the Nepal Himalayas, combining the spectacular landscapes of the Langtang Valley with sacred alpine lakes of Gosaikunda. Located north of Kathmandu near the Nepal-Tibet border, this trek is ideal for famillies, first-time trekkers. Trekking inside the Langtang National Park, within a 12–15-day trek, takes you through lush forests, traditional Tamang villages, ancient monasteries, alpine meadows, and high mountain passes. The highlight of the journey is crossing Lauribina Pass (4,610 m), which offers spectacular panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
This unforgettable journey combines the scenic landscapes of the Langtang Valley with the sacred Gosaikunda Lakes, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. The trek passes through Langtang National Park, home to diverse wildlife, alpine meadows, and spectacular Himalayan scenery. With a moderate difficulty level, the itinerary is well suited for beginners and active travelers looking to experience high-altitude trekking without extreme technical challenges.
The trek itinerary is perfect for trekkers seeking a blend of adventure, culture, and spirituality; the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek offers us an authentic Himalayan experience away from the crowds of the Everest and Annapurna regions. With comfortable teahouse accommodations, diverse landscapes, rich local heritage, and the holy Gosaikunda Lakes, this trek is an excellent choice for both experienced hikers and fit beginners. The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when clear skies and pleasant weather create ideal trekking conditions.
Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Route Details
The 15-day Langtang Gosaikunda Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, following the Trishuli River through Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche. After arriving in the traditional Tamang village, you will spend the night at a local teahouse before starting the trek.
From Syabrubesi, the trail enters Langtang National Park, leading through lush forests, river gorges, and picturesque mountain landscapes. As you gain altitude, you'll pass traditional Tamang settlements before reaching Langtang Village, where you can experience the unique culture, hospitality, and Buddhist heritage of the Tamang and Bhotia communities, whose traditions closely resemble those of neighboring Tibet.
The trek then continues to Kyanjin Gompa (3,910 m / 12,828 ft), the highest permanent teahouse settlement in the Langtang Valley. Here, you can visit the historic Buddhist monastery and the famous yak cheese factory. An acclimatization day is highly recommended, allowing you to hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri, both of which reward trekkers with spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of Langtang Lirung, surrounding glaciers, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
After exploring Kyanjin Gompa, the trail retraces its route to Lama Hotel before heading toward Thulo Syabru and Sing Gompa (Cholangpati) on the way to the sacred Gosaikunda Lakes. Nestled among rugged mountains, these pristine glacial lakes are revered by both Hindus and Buddhists, who believe their crystal-clear waters possess spiritual and healing significance.
Every year during Janai Purnima, celebrated in August according to the Hindu lunar calendar, thousands of pilgrims visit Gosaikunda to take a holy dip in the lake, believing it cleanses the sins of a hundred lifetimes and brings spiritual blessings.
The adventure continues across Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m / 15,125 ft), the highest point of the trek. Although this is the longest and most challenging day, the spectacular alpine scenery and breathtaking mountain views make the effort worthwhile. After crossing the pass, the trail descends into the tranquil Helambu Region, an area known for its beautiful forests, traditional villages, and relatively uncrowded trekking routes.
From Tharepati, the route descends through rhododendron, pine, juniper, and oak forests to Kutumsang, before continuing to Chisapani, a popular viewpoint offering magnificent panoramas of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, and even parts of the Everest Range on clear days.
On the final day, you descend from Chisapani to Sundarijal, a scenic area famous for its waterfalls and lush forests, before driving back to Kathmandu, bringing an unforgettable Langtang Gosaikunda trekking adventure to a memorable conclusion.
