Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek can simply be done through normal lodges and tea houses, where you can sleep well after a 6-7-hour walk, and can order and eat delicious Nepali, Chinese, and Indian foods. Before, this trek route was fa or camping trek, which required huge main power support.

Highlights of Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek

  • An adventure around the world, the 3rd-highest Mt. Kanchenjunga base camp trekking
  • Around pristine natural surroundings of alpine green forest, towards massive ice and glaciers
  • At least trekked areas in complete isolation of high mountains and remote mountain villages
  • Exploring rural farm villages often visited by foreign trekkers,r s with delightful scenic walks.
  • The only trek around the Himalayas visiting Kanchenjunga, both North / South base camps
  • Embark on a challenging traverse through a region seldom visited by trekkers

You are heartily welcome to Nepal Spirit Adventure for organizing one of Nepal’s most rewarding off-the-beaten Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp at (5,143m) from the sea level. It is one of the great Himalayan trails and covers the eastern part of Nepal.

Mount Kanchenjunga is 8,586m, the world’s third-tallest mountain. “Kanchenjunga” means in Nepali a crystal clear Hima, and is also popularly known as the “Five Treasures of the Great Snow,” i.e,. Gold, Silver, Precious Stones, Grain, and Holy Scripture, which are about the five summits that make up Kanchen Junga.

Previously Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek was camping only; there are now more affordable teahouse routes that take you past stunning mountain views, ancient forests, prime wildlife habitat, and into the heart of traditional culture and communities can be beautiful highlights of this adventure footpath journey.

Nepal Spirit Adventure welcomes travelers to explore and trek to Mt. Kanchenjunga base camp, an adventure of a lifetime experience around the world's 3rd highest mountain, seldom frequented by other trekkers.

You will get a great opportunity to trek in the complete wilderness away from the mainstream trekking trails in and around remote and isolated mountain villages, enriched with old traditions and cultures.

This is the only trek that leads you to visit both base camps of one mountain on this adventurous and scenic walk, leading you into the beautiful alpine forest of tall rhododendron-magnolia-birch-pine and fir tree lines. An amazing place to be with incredible views of the high mountains that surround you on this fascinating Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek.

The walk leads through farm villages and towns into serene woodlands to reach the South Kanchenjunga base camp with the Yalung massif glacier. This was the original route to the summit of Kanchenjunga,  as climbed by the British Expedition in 1955.

Our next adventure leads to North Kanchenjunga base camp at Pangpema, the highest spot of the trek at 5,143 m high, with fantastic views of the massive Kanchenjunga range of mountains and as far as Baruntse and Makalu peaks.

The 28-day circuit trek begins after we fly to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu. The long journey on a less crowded path also rewards us with a unique insight into the rural Nepalese lifestyle of the country’s eastern region.

Nepal Spirit Adventure is one of the most trusted local companies iNepalpal having worked in tourism since 1998. We make sure your travel in Nepal is special and memorable. We acquire all kinds of legal permits for your travel in the country.

After breakfast, we transferred to Kathmandu's domestic airport for a flight to Bhadrapur is situated in the Terai, southeast of Nepal. The flight from Kathmandu takes approximately 50 minutes and affords views of the region of the Himalayas where the trek will be taking place. Phidim is located within a magnificent valley in the foothills of the Himalayas in eastern Nepal. It is a beautiful hill township that offers enchanting views of the eastern Himalayas. Approx. Driving hours: 5-6 overnight in the lodge.

Day04

Drive to Chiruwa (1270 m) approx. 8-9hrs

Today we drive to Chiruwa via Taplejung. Chiruwa is located in a Himalayan gorge with dense patches of sub-tropical rainforest and cliffs. The ethnic group here, the Kirati, now known as Limbu, dates back more than 2000 years as subsistence farmers in this region. Crops such as rice, millet, barley, wheat, and corn are nearly always growing at the time that we visit. After approximately 8-9 hours drive reach Chiruwa overnight stay in a lodge.

Day05

Trek from Chiruwa to Sukethum about 6hrs

Today, we commence our trek to Sukethum. The trail is well defined, and the walk is both enjoyable and satisfying. We have only a few climbs up towards the valley where we begin to notice subtle changes in the landscape surrounding us. We weave through large boulders, passing below the village of Tapethok, and cross a landslide area to reach a bridge crossing a tributary of the Tamur River. This is the Simbuwa Khola, which flows from the south side of Kanchenjunga. We continue on towards the base camp, crossing several bridges and following what is now called the Gunsa Khola overnight in a guesthouse.

Day06

Trek to Amjilosa approximately 6hrs

The trail is very narrow, and we follow the Ghunsa River until we break for lunch. This walk requires a lot of caution and concentration. Day08

The people of this village depend mainly on yak rearing and weaving carpets. Here we find the one and only monastery of the entire trek, and visitors are most welcome. Overnight stay in the lodge.

Day09

Acclimatization day at Ghunsa

Today we will enjoy a rest day, and there may be time, weather permitting, to wash some clothes or do other domestic chores. After long days of walking, a rest day is highly recommended.

Day10

Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen, approx. 7hrs

From Ghunsa and above, any signs of human habitation are those of seasonal settlements for the yak herders. They will take their animals to heights of 4000m-4500m in the warmer months of the year. For the trekker, the scenery is unmatched. The route past the sheer cliffs and towering peaks of the Kanchenjunga massif and Jannu Himal (7,710m) is awe-inspiring. They rise directly out of this classical and very grand glacial valley. The trail is ill-defined at times, crossing loose scree and rocks that have been pushed forth from old glaciers. It is quite possible to see wildlife in this remote part of the Himalayas, blue sheep, ibex, mountain goats, or smaller animals among the rocks, such as hyrax and marmots. Overhead, various birds of prey may be seen- Lammergeir (a type of vulture) and various eagles, kites, and falcons!
