An adventurous trek and climb of the stunning Mera Peak takes you through the beautiful Inkhu Valley. Nepal Spirit Adventure offers an exciting journey into the hidden areas of Khumbu and Everest, centered around the Imja River Valley on the Mera Peak climbing route.

Mera Peak Climbing in Nepal is a striking peak, beautifully situated and surrounded by other high mountains that encircle the picturesque Inkhu Khola Valley. Trekking and climbing Mera Peak offer a delightful experience in lush, green forested regions teeming with tall rhododendrons, oak, pine, and fir trees, as well as expansive meadows of grazing pastureland.

The trek to Mera Peak leads along less-traveled trails southeast of Khumbu, reaching the remote areas of Pangom, Najindingma, and Gai-Kharka, which are among the least-visited locations by other trekkers and climbers.

Mera Peak Climbing and Trekking to Mosum Kharka, where the routes of Lukla meet, and then reaching the Mera Peak base camp for the classic climb to the top (6,470 m | 21,227 ft), where you feel on top of the world and in high spirits with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding high mountains.

The Mera Peak climb is graded PD, indicating that it involves fewer technical difficulties. This grading is based on the French/Swiss Alpine Climbing system, which is recognized worldwide. While Mera Peak is considered less technical, it still necessitates the use of proper climbing equipment and a good level of physical fitness to ensure a safe ascent and descent.

After a successful Mera Peak climb, head back to Lukla for the flight to Kathmandu, which has sweeping views of mountains for 35 minutes in the air.

Day03

Fly to Lukla, Trek to Paiya Chutok

Early morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for a short scenic flight of 35 minutes to Lukla with panoramic views of the mountains. On reaching Lukla with its unique airstrip, meet the remaining Mera Peka Climbing staff, then start the trek towards Paiya, also known as Chutok.

After a short refreshing stop at Lukla and meeting our porters and other staff walk downhill by the Lukla air runways to reach Surkhe village. From here, climb to the ridge of Surkhe with a gradual, good walk on a pleasant, winding path to reach the first overnight stop at Paiya, a moderate-sized village with nice forest surrounding.

Day04

Trek from Paiya to Pangom Vilage

It's the second day of our trek! After breakfast, we descend for a while until we reach a small bridge. From this point, the trail becomes slippery until we cross the Kari La Pass. We walk through beautiful rhododendron and bamboo forests along a narrow mountain path. During today’s journey, we also get to admire the stunning Dudhkoshi Valley. We continue our trek to Panggom Village, where the residents rely on farming and trading for their livelihoods. We will spend the night in Panggom.

Day05

Trek to Nashing Dingma

After breakfast, leaving the main the local route of the lower Solu area heading towards the remote north into Inkhu Valley. The morning walk enters a deep alpine forest, reaching Cherem with a few shades of cattle herders.

Pangkongma is not located at the top of the mountain, so we will first climb the winding path to the mountain pass, Pangkongma La, which is at an altitude of 3,170 meters (10,400 feet).

Here, we will be greeted by stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the impressive south face of Mera Peak. From this point, we will face a steep descent all the way down to the Hinku Khola.

The downhill walk will primarily follow the ridge for a significant portion of the trek. After resting at the bottom of the valley and crossing a suspension bridge, we will embark on a 2-hour climb through the forest to reach our destination, Nashing Dingma.

Day06

Trek to Chhatra Khola from Nashin Dingma

We climb first, then descend for a while and climb some more to reach Ramailo Danda. From here, we get extraordinary views of Mera Peak and Salpa. After ascending and descending on our trail, we enter the Makalu Barun National Park. Our trail from here to Chhatra Khola is called the Pasang Lhamu trail. On the way, if we are lucky, we might even come across the elusive Red Panda. Overnight in Chhatra Khola.

Day07

Trek to Kothe

Today’s trek to Kothe will be easier. We will begin by heading northwest from Khola Kharka, starting with a short, half-hour climb. After that, we will descend; the slope begins gently before steepening all the way down to the bottom of the V-shaped Hinku Valley, named after the Hinku Khola (River) that flows through it.

As we walk, the landscape transforms from rocky terrain to green bushes and trees. We will be walking along the right side of the river as the path gradually climbs northward. Just before we reach Kothe, we will cross the white-water Hinku Khola on a wooden bridge. There will be no settlements along our route today.

Day08

Trek to Thaknak

We trek along the ridge of the Hinku Khola, in the shadow of Mera Peak. We stop for lunch at Gondishung, a summer herders’ settlement located on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka. After Gondishung, we pass the 200-year-old Lungsumgba Gompa, where we can see Mera Peak etched in rock, along with the route to reach it. A short walk from there takes us to Thaknak, a summer grazing area with simple lodges and shops. We will spend the night in Thaknak.

Day09

Pleasant trek to Khare

As we leave Thaknak, we will follow the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier toward Dig Kharka, where we can enjoy spectacular views of the Charpate Himal. The trail ascends through the moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers, before climbing more steeply to Khare. From this vantage point, we'll have an incredible view of the northern face of Mera Peak, which will be an unforgettable experience. After lunch, we can explore the area around Khare before spending the night in the lodge.

Day10

Acclimatization & Pre Climb Training

We have a separate day set aside solely for acclimatization and basic training just to prepare ourselves better for the Mera Peak climb. Our climbing leader will help us polish our basic climbing techniques and demonstrate the best ways to use our climbing gear, like the ice axe, harness, ascender, climbing boots, and crampons. The training will also include learning the best climbing technique with the rope. Overnight in Khare.

Day11

Trek from Khare to Mera high camp

As we progress along the snowy glacier, we approach the pass where the slope becomes steep. This segment of the trek is one of the most breathtaking. We are surrounded by stunning panoramas of giant mountains, each rising above 7,000 meters (22,965 feet), some of the highest on Earth. To the east, we can see Chamlang (7,290 meters / 23,917 feet), Makalu (8,475 meters / 27,805 feet), and Baruntse (7,220 meters / 23,687 feet). To the north, Everest (8,848.86 meters / 29,031 feet), Lhotse (8,501 meters / 27,890 feet), and Nuptse dominate the skyline. Heading westward, we are greeted by the impressive peaks of Ama Dablam, Cho Oyo (8,153 meters / 26,748 feet), and Kantega, which fill our view.

Day12

Summit Mera Peak and Return to Khare

Today is a significant day for our expedition. We wake up around 2 a.m. for breakfast. It’s going to be quite cold at first, but we warm up as we ascend the glacier and move onto a unique ridge. The first rays of sunlight hit the towering peaks, allowing the climbers to witness an amazing red hue illuminating the landscape of Nepal. The route remains non-technical as we gradually climb higher into the thinning air.

The slope steepens behind the ridge, and the summit comes back into view. At the base of the final steep summit cone, we may need to use a fixed rope if the climbing leader deems it necessary. The summit is just a few meters away as we reach the top of Mera Peak. From this vantage point, our dreams of success come true, offering a breathtaking panorama that includes Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Cho-Oyu (8,210 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), Nuptse (7,855 m), Chamlang (7,319 m), and Baruntse (7,129 m).

After celebrating our achievement at the summit, we descend carefully to the high camp, where we take a moment to rest before continuing our descent to Khare, where we’ll stay overnight in a lodge.

Day13

Spare Day for Climbing In Case of Bad Weather

We cannot guarantee favorable weather on our scheduled summit day. Therefore, we have set aside an additional day as a contingency in case we are unable to reach the summit of Mera on the planned day due to bad weather or any unforeseen circumstances. However, if everything goes smoothly, we will not need to use this extra day.

Day14

Trek back to Kothe from Khare

After an adventure of a lifetime experience, return journey back to Lukla as the trek leads to Kothe, walk from base camp without a problem of altitude gain, although the walk leads to a few ups and downs, and back to green vegetation and tree lines at Kotey, a small cattle herder's shelters overnight in a lodge.

Day15

Trek back to Thuli Kharka from Kothe

Today, we will take a different route to leave Kothe and reach Lukla in a couple of days. From Kothe, we will start our gentle descent southward along the left side of the Hinku Khola. After a couple of hours, we will begin our climb westward to Thuli Kharka.

The steep ascent will take us through the forests, with a lunch stop at Toktar, a small settlement nestled in the woods. We will continue our ascent through the forest and navigate a rocky section. In a final push, the trail will gradually descend to Thuli Kharka, where we will spend the night.

Day16

Trek to Lukla via Zatrwa La Pass

Day17

Fly back to Kathmandu or Manthali (Ramechhap) from Lukla

Flight to Manthali

The flight from Lukla to Manthali takes approximately 25 minutes. Following your arrival, there will be a 4 to 6-hour drive to Kathmandu, where you will be transferred to your hotel in a shared tourist vehicle. This information is relevant for the peak trekking season, which runs from March to November.

Flight to Kathmandu

The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla lasts about 35 minutes. After landing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu using a shared tourist vehicle. This arrangement is applicable outside of the peak trekking months.

Helicopter Option

You have the option to book a direct helicopter flight from Lukla to Kathmandu for an additional charge of USD 550 per person. This price is based on a sharing arrangement for five people. This is the best alternative to avoid the long drive from Manthali Airport to Kathmandu during peak season, which includes March, April, May, October, and November.

If you wish to extend your stay in Nepal, there are several options available. You might consider visiting Chitwan National Park, renowned for its wildlife viewing, or Pokhara, which is often regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal. Additionally, you can extend your travels to Tibet or Bhutan.

Day18

Departure (End of Trip)

After a wonderful time on Mera Peak Climb with the grand service of Nepal Spirit Adventure, as per the flight time, transfer to the Tribhuvan International airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight for your departure homeward bound or to the next respective countries.

Essential Information

KATHMANDU ARRIVAL PICKUP

On arrival in Nepal at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, our airport representative or staff will receive you as per your flight landing hours with your name on the display board of Nepal Spirit Adventure, then transfer you to your respective hotels in Kathmandu. Afternoon or evening time, we will review and discuss much information regarding your trip itinerary and included/excluded services as per the trip itinerary chosen, at the same time introduce your guide who will help you with the final preparation for your trek, and you may have questions and ask about the trip.

ACCOMMODATION

As per your Mera Peak Climbing with us, we will be accommodated in a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu (city) with lodge-teahouses and tent accommodation provided during the trekking and climbing period. City hotels and lodges are on a twin–shared basis. A single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 660. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevations, but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

MEALS

In Kathmandu, only breakfast is included in the package. During the trek-climbing period, 3 times a day meals are included in your Mera Peak Trekking and Climbing Package. We provide clean and hygienic food from these local lodges/tea houses as per the choices on the menu. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the same tea house/lodge, while lunch would be on the trail.

Every Tea House serves the traditional Nepali meal Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), as well as a variety of different food items, such as rice, seasonal vegetables, noodles, potatoes, and soups. Some lodges serve Western foods, such as pizza, pasta, and French fries. Soft drinks, snacks, and beer are available in most of the Tea Houses' restaurants. A variety of cereals, bread, and egg dishes are generally available for breakfast.

SAFE DRINKING WATER

When embarking on high-altitude treks and Mera Peak Climbing, ensuring access to safe drinking water is crucial. It is recommended that you drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water each day to help prevent dehydration and altitude-related issues, such as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Whenever possible, purchase sealed packs of mineral water from local shops or lodges. While river, spring, and tap water may seem clean and appear free to access, it is not advisable to drink it directly. To make such water safe, you must use water purification tablets or a filter.

You can also buy boiled water from most lodges. The cost of boiled water and sealed bottled water ranges from $1 to $2 per liter, depending on your altitude above sea level. Therefore, it’s wise to budget for these additional expenses when planning your trek.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The Classic Route of the Mera Peak Climbing and trekking is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who can manage to walk for 5 to 7 hours a day while carrying a light day pack. Trekking at high altitudes is more physically demanding than at lower elevations. However, if you are in good health, possess average physical fitness, and maintain a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, you can complete this trek.

To prepare, it is beneficial to engage in regular exercise and jogging for several weeks before the trip to enhance your strength and stability. Previous hiking experience is helpful, but no technical skills are required for this journey. It is crucial for participants with pre-existing medical conditions—such as heart, lung, or blood disorders—to consult their doctor before undertaking the trek. Additionally, it is advisable to inform Nepal Spirit Adventure of any medical conditions when booking to minimize the risks of altitude sickness.

OUR EXPERIENCED TREK-CLIMBING CREWS

Nepal is a mountainous country walk that takes you to a remote region. You must be accompanied by an experienced and qualified guide and leaders for a safe journey and to make the trip a success. We at Nepal Spirit Adventure employ native trekking guides and porters who are trained and qualified for this type of trip and have worked with us for a long time.

Our experienced guide provides much local information and offers you advice on how to use your free time, and coordinates the day-to-day events of the tour. However, sometimes he might need you to understand that if things do not go according to our plan. Our trek guides are fully trained and licensed by the Nepal Government, and certified by TAAN and Nepal Mountaineering Association.

All our trekking and climbing guides are well qualified and highly experienced, with 9- 10 years in this job. We provide training for our staff yearly on medical and climbing, with their efficiency, and cheerful attitude, providing help, information, and addressing the needs of the guests of various nationalities.

Assuring that the expert team of tourism professionals manages all our trips well, all our guides have a good knowledge regarding the culture and customs of the routes on trekking and tours, share experience and cultural insights of the country that are missed out in travel guide books. During your time with us, you will have time to learn Nepali phrases and other cultural aspects during the journey.

As we organize varied treks in the Nepal Himalaya, on group trekking, we provide a trek leader with an assistant leader on each trek, depending upon the size of the group.

This ensures safe travel with us as our guide/assistance guides get any health medical problem, we still have other main guides and leaders to run the trip smoothly as per our standard itinerary. To make the trip enjoyable, we provide one guide to support and carry your bags among two people with one Sherpa helper in certain conditions.

ACCLIMATIZATION

All of Nepal Spirit Adventure’s treks are planned with a high degree of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), also known as altitude sickness. Going up to a higher altitude too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to kill. We understand that for a safe trek, it is essential to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible planning is therefore required to minimize the risk of AMS. Nepal Spirit Adventure’s itineraries are designed to prevent AMS as much as possible. But it is important to remember that some visitors are more vulnerable than others. Your guides and porters will do their every bit in assisting you during the entire trek.

RE-CHARGING BATTERIES (electronic items)

We can recharge your batteries and devices with electricity or solar power sources. In Nepal, 220- 240 volts 50 MHZ (50 Cycles per Second) power is supplied. Just need to have a plug adaptor in case of socket fitting, which you can buy in Kathmandu before the trip, since the plugs in Nepal might be different. You might have to pay a small amount of fee/hour for using the charging facilities.

GROUP SIZE

We organize any route of Nepal trek with a fixed departure basis or private trip, the minimum group size would be 1 maximum group size is 10 or more on request. We can also organize a private trip for a solo person with a single supplement cost. Otherwise, join our estimated group departure dates available online market or ask us for your personal, suitable, flexible dates, and we will open the group date on the same date.
