Essential Information
Nepal Visa & Cost
All foreign nationals—except Indian citizens—are required to obtain a visa to enter Nepal. Visas can be acquired either through the Nepalese Embassy or Consulate in your home country or upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
Most travelers prefer to obtain their Nepal Visa on Arrival at TIA. This process is simple and efficient, although some waiting time may be expected during peak tourist seasons. Alternatively, you may obtain your visa in advance through Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad to avoid queues.
Note: If you obtain your visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa issue date. Your duration of stay is calculated from the day you arrive in Nepal.
All On-Arrival Visas issued at the airport or border entry points are Tourist Visas, which include multiple re-entry privileges. Even if you’re visiting Nepal for purposes other than tourism (e.g., trekking, mountaineering, visiting friends or family), you must first enter with a Tourist Visa and then convert it to the appropriate visa category at the Department of Immigration.
On-Arrival Visa Procedure at TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport)
If you haven’t obtained your visa in advance, follow these steps upon arrival:
Step 1: Fill Out the Online ‘Tourist Visa’ Form
-
You can complete the form in advance via the Department of Immigration website or use the kiosk machines at the airport upon arrival.
-
If filled online, print the submission receipt with the barcode and bring it with you. Note: This receipt is valid for 15 days only. If it expires, you must fill out the form again.
Step 2: Pay the Visa Fee
-
Proceed to the visa fee counter and pay the applicable amount:
-
15 Days – USD 30
-
30 Days – USD 50
-
90 Days – USD 125
-
-
Payment can be made via various methods, but carrying cash (USD) is recommended for convenience.
Step 3: Immigration Desk
- Submit your online form, payment receipt, and passport at the immigration desk.
- The immigration officer will issue your visa after verifying your documents.
Visa Extension Fee
- Minimum extension: 15 days – USD 45
- Additional days: USD 3 per day
- Late extension (less than 150 days): USD 5 per day as a late fine.
Upon Arrival in Nepal
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our Nepal Spirit Adventure airport representative will be waiting to receive you with a display board showing your name. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu.
In the afternoon or evening, we’ll conduct a pre-trip meeting to review your itinerary, services included/excluded, and introduce your guide. You can also ask any questions related to the trip.
Accommodation in Kathmandu & Pokhara
We provide 3-star tourist-standard hotels on a twin-sharing basis with daily breakfast. If you’re joining a group trek, you’ll be paired with a same-gender roommate. If you prefer a single room, a supplemental fee applies (in both city hotels and during the trek). Deluxe hotel upgrades are available upon request.
Accommodation During the Trek & Chulu East Peak Climb
Accommodation during the trek is in tea houses—simple mountain lodges offering basic amenities. Rooms typically have twin beds with minimal furniture. Blankets are usually provided, but we highly recommend bringing your own sleeping bag.
Most tea houses have shared bathrooms, with either Asian squat toilets or Western-style toilets, and hot showers are available for an extra charge.
During the climbing section, we provide quality tents and necessary sleeping gear.
Trekking & Climbing Meals
Your trek and climb with Nepal Spirit Adventure includes full board meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
Meals are served in tea houses and include a variety of options such as:
- Traditional Nepali Dal Bhat (rice & lentils)
- Seasonal vegetables, noodles, soups, potatoes
- Some lodges offer Western food: pizza, pasta, and French fries
- Breakfast includes eggs, cereal, bread, and tea/coffee
During the climbing period, all meals will be prepared by our staff in camp.
Safe Drinking Water
Staying hydrated is critical at high altitudes. We recommend drinking 3–4 liters of water per day.
Options for safe drinking water:
- Boiled water (available at tea houses for approx. USD 1–2 per liter)
- Sealed bottled water (available in villages)
- Filtered water using purification tablets or personal filters
Avoid drinking untreated tap, river, or spring water.
Health & Fitness Requirements
Trekking in Nepal requires moderate physical fitness. While technical skills aren’t required, participants should be comfortable walking 4–6 hours daily, often over uneven and hilly terrain.
To prepare:
- Start a fitness routine at least 4–6 weeks before your trip (walking, cycling, light cardio)
- Consult your doctor and have a medical check-up before departure
- If you have pre-existing conditions, please inform us and bring a medical report
The highest altitude reached on the trek is Chulu East Peak (6,584 m) and Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). Acclimatization is included in the itinerary to reduce the risk of Altitude Sickness (AMS).
Trekking & Climbing Crew
All treks are led by experienced, government-licensed guides, many of whom have 9–10 years of field experience. They are trained in:
- First aid & altitude safety
- Cultural and environmental awareness
- English and other major languages
We also employ Sherpa assistants and porters based on group size:
- 1 guide per group
- 1 porter for every 2 trekkers
- Assistant guides for larger groups
Guides are regularly trained in mountain safety and customer care, ensuring both your safety and a culturally rich experience.
Porter Welfare
We follow the Porters' Progress International (PPI) guidelines and ensure:
- Porters are properly equipped with warm clothing and footwear
- Insurance coverage is provided
- Maximum load limits: 20–25 kg per porter
We encourage all trekkers to limit their duffel bags to under 25 kg.
Travel Insurance (Required)
All participants must have comprehensive travel insurance that covers:
- Medical emergencies
- Evacuation by helicopter or other means
- Accidents or injuries
- Loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings
Note: Nepalese insurance companies do not provide coverage for foreign nationals. You must arrange travel insurance in your home country and bring all relevant documents.
Recharging Batteries on the Trek
Electricity (220–240V, 50Hz) is available in most tea houses and villages. You can charge electronic devices using:
- Wall outlets (bring international plug adaptors)
- Solar chargers (some areas have limited power)
Charging may cost USD 1–3 per hour, depending on location and availability.
High Altitude Sickness (AMS)
AMS is common above 3,000 meters. Symptoms include:
-
Headache, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath
Prevention tips:
- Drink 3–4 liters of water daily
- Ascend slowly and allow time for acclimatization
- Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell
Our guides are trained in AMS protocols and will take appropriate action if symptoms develop.
Group Size
We offer both fixed departures and private trips.
- Minimum group size: 2 participants
- Maximum group size: 10 (or more upon request)
Solo travelers are welcome on private trips (single supplement applicable). You can also join existing groups based on your preferred dates.
