Day03

Drive from Kathmandu to Sotikhola

Today, we officially kick-start our voyage to the enduring Manaslu Base Camp. This first day is a crucial transition as you leave the bustling capital behind and enter the foothills of the Himalayas.

Kathmandu to Dhading

We start early in the morning at around 5 AM, leaving the ring road and heading west on the Prithvi Highway. The road is decent here, and you'll see the city slowly melt away into lush green hills and small towns. We pass through the district of Dhading, where life moves at a slower pace.

Dhading to Arughat Bazar

This is where the road narrows and winds. We leave the main highway and truly enter the hills. You'll be amazed by the terraced farms carved into the hillside, growing rice, millet, and maize. The air feels cleaner, and the Budhi Ganaki River begins to reveal itself as a distant silver thread below. The river's name means "Holy Gandaki", and its waters are sacred to us.

Arughat to Arkhet Bazar

Now, the drama begins! The road becomes a bumpy, rocky track clinging to the side of the mountain. You will feel every jolt, but the views are worth it. This is what we call "Nepali Massage". The valley wall closes in, the river roars beside us, and you'll see countless waterfalls cascading down the cliff. The vegetation is thick and sub-tropical. You might even catch a glimpse of the high snow-capped peaks in the distance, like the Ganesh Himal range (7,422m), teasing what's to come.

Arkhet to Soti Khola

This is the final push. The road is at its roughest, often just a single track carved from the rock. Our jeep will navigate tight bends and river crossings. Then, we arrive. Soti Khola translates to "Pine River," named for the forests that surround the confluence of the Budhi Gandaki and a smaller tributary. You will hear the river before you see it. It is a powerful, calming sound, the perfect lullaby for your first night in the mountains.

Day04

Trek from Sotikhola to Machhakhola

The training stops; now the real walking begins. The trail from Soti Khola to Machhakhola is a spectacular introduction to the rhythm of the Himalayan mountains. It's a day that will challenge you just enough, thrill you with its beauty, and immerse you in the daily life of the people who call this valley home.

Soti Khola to Khursane

We begin our day after a delicious breakfast here in the Machhakhola. We will be crossing many suspension bridges that will become a familiar sight throughout this trek. The path leads us through a cool, shaded Sal forest. Listen. The sound of the Budhi Gandaki is a constant companion, a powerful roar that grows and fades as the trail weaves in and out of earshot. You'll immediately notice small waterfalls cascading down the cliffs on the opposite side of the valley, and soon we'll be walking right past some ourselves. This section is relatively gentle, a perfect way to find your trekking legs. After about an hour, we might pass through the tiny settlement of Khursane, known for its small waterfall right beside the trail.

Day05

Trek from Machhakhola to Jagat

After Macha-Khola, walk towards Khorla Beshi, a small farm village, followed by a winding path reaching Tatopani “Hot Spring", an opportunity for a hot bath. After a tummy-filling Lunch, the walk continues passing Dovan and Yaruphant villages, and finally, the walk ends at Jagat village after crossing a short suspension bridge, a moderate-sized village with shops and stores.
